What are "LEX" and "REX"?
When talking about USB extenders, you'll often encounter the terms "Lex" and "Rex." These terms are shorthand for Local Extender (Lex) and Remote Extender (Rex), which refer to the two components that work together to extend the range of your USB connection.
LEX (Local Extender)
This unit connects to the local USB source (like your computer or server). It acts as the starting point for extending the USB signal over a longer distance.
REX (Remote Extender)
This unit connects to the device that requires the USB connection (like a printer, webcam, or storage device) and receives the signal from the Lex.
These two devices communicate with each other via a separate cabling system, typically Ethernet (CAT5e/6), allowing USB devices to function at distances far beyond the standard 5 meters.
Using a Lex and Rex setup ensures seamless communication between USB devices and hosts over long distances, making it essential for industries like broadcasting, healthcare, and industrial automation where devices often need to be connected from afar.
